Collective nouns

Collective nouns are names for a collection or a number of people or things. For example, group, company, crowd, team, board, audience, council, collection, series, bunch. Collective nouns are words for single things that are made up of more than one person, animal, place, thing, or idea.

  • The university has not made a decision yet.
  • UCAS is reviewing its admissions process.
  • The UK Government is raising tuition fees.
  • The team is posing for a photograph.
  • The team members are posing for a photograph.
