Numbers

Spell out whole numbers below 11 and use figures for 11 or above:

  • One, two, three, ten
  • 11, 12, 13

But:

  • Use figures for representing percentages: 4% or 4 per cent
  • Use figures if referring to the year of a course: you start in year 1 of the course

Larger numbers need a comma: 2,000 and 13,234.

2km No space after the number

When referring to the application fee, the cost is displayed as £24.

Singular or plural form of the verb

When an organisation is used in the third person, for example UCAS, the organisation or the Company, it takes the singular form.

UCAS is responsible for managing applications for higher education courses.

The plural form of the verb is only used when we refer to the organisation in the first person.

We are responsible for managing applications for higher education courses.
